Christmas 2025
The Short Mat players enjoyed a Christmas special, with delicious cakes baked by Teresa Rosser as well as sausage rolls and mince pies. Also, a few games of short mat were enjoyed, but somehow the food seemed more important!
Thanks go to Steven Rosser and John Banks for organising the twice-weekly sessions, much enjoyed by all concerned.

Earlier, musician Jan Robinson entertained club members with his excellent renditions of classic hits, including some by his current group Marmalade. (pictures by Chris Mocko)
Then, on the Sunday, the Thames Vale Singers sang a selection of Christmas Carols and seasonal songs, and successfully encouraged the club members to sing along, more or less in tune!
A particular highlight was Val Ryan's reading of a very cheeky Christmas poem, written by Nigel Smith. As well as being a member of the choir, Val is a bowling member of the club.

Grateful thanks go to Julie Merry for organising the club's presentation evening, held on Friday 28th November.
It was a great success with many of the trophy recipients attending.
The food provided by the excellent Food Fairies, was really good, with three different spicy curries and a very tasty lasagna.
Thanks also go to Gerry Neal for running this year's competitions.
The trophy winners can be seen in a gallery here.
Recently, Jay Lloyd, Store Manager of Coop in School Road, presented Tilehurst Bowls Club with a cheque for £75.
This means that, with their earlier cheque for £250, Coop have given a total of £325 to the Club.
When you add this to the food that they donated to support the charity match in aid of Thames Valley Air Ambulance, their generosity has been absolutely tremendous.
The photo shows Glyn Crowther receiving the cheque from Jay Lloyd.

Thanks to the very hard work of organisers Ann and Rod Gray and the many club members who hosted the event, this was a very successful Open Day with a lot of visitors attending. Luckily the rain held off, and our visitors enjoyed trying their hands at bowls as well as sampling the other facilities of the club, especially the bar!
It was also good to see Graeme & Maurice from Hospital Radio broadcasting live from greenside.
Grateful thanks to all involved.

Notwithstanding the traditional early bank holiday weather, everyone enjoyed the bowling, wrapped up in many layers as they were.
Congratulations to Andy Finnie, Dave Miles and Richard Harman who came first in the competition. Alan Richards won the Spider.
Many thanks to organisers Rod and Ann Gray and also to the many helpers who prepared and set out the magnificent spread of food, under Lisa Jones's efficient guidance. Lisa also prepared most of the food. Thanks to the people who baked cakes. Many people attended in themed attire. The table of memorabilia was also very interesting: many thanks for the contributions.
