May Day Triples

Unusually for a bank holiday, it wasn't raining or snowing. With temperatures in the low 30°C, hydration was crucial. Notwithstanding the heat, it was a very enjoyable afternoon's bowling, followed by a very tasty bangers and mash supper.

The competition was won by Stuart Guy, Robert Preston and Viv Alison.

Thanks go to Rod and Ann Gray for organizing the afternoon and to the many people who prepared and cooked the food, as well as those who donated the cakes.

Eric Eels Trophy

This year's trophy was won by (l-r) Gary Barnett, Stuart Guy and Tracy Dawes. There were three teams who won all three of their matches, so the result was decided on shot difference.

It was an enjoyable afternoon's bowling. Fortunately the rain held off, although it was decidedly chilly.

However, everyone soon warmed up as the jacket potato and chili was quickly served, followed by a selection of very tasty cakes.

Thanks go to Lisa Jones and her kitchen crew for the food and to Rod & Ann Gray for organising the afternoon.

Open Day 2026

This year's Open Day was very well attended with lots of visitors of varying ages enjoying the opportunity to try out bowls.

We were lucky with the weather: despite the forecast, the rain held off.

Thanks go to everyone who helped with the day.

Getting Ready for the New Season

The pictures show the re-vamped equipment shed. The work was carried out by Maintenance Manager Graham Lee and includes his brilliantly designed Jack RackTM . Graham has also added a clear roof, which means no more stumbling about in the dark trying to find the mats, which have also been replaced.

Thanks should go to the members of the green and maintenance teams for their hard work in preparing the club for the 2026 outdoor season.

Short Mat Season Final

The final Short Mat Bowls session took place on Friday 10th April with a closely-fought series of matches. The winning team was Clive Walton, Suzanne Jackson and Dave Freeman, but all ten teams competed enthusiastically. The food was excellent: thanks to everyone who contributed to the menu!

It was the culmination of a very successful and enjoyable season of short mat sessions, which included two evening games at Burghfield.

Grateful thanks go to everyone who help run the sessions, in particular Steven Rosser and John Banks who gave many hours of their own time to ensure that club members could enjoy this much-appreciated activity.

Offcuts Entertain

Local band Offcuts provided musical entertainment on 7th February. It was an evening enjoyed by all who came along.

As one of the attendees was heard to say, "it's only rock'n'roll, but I like it."

Thanks go to the Social Committee for organising the event.
